Evaporation Process Improvement, Service, and Training. Let me help you
Adding and effect doubles the evaporation rate. The illustration shows the vapor coming off the first effect is used as the energy source for the second effect steam side. The 20% solids concentrated product coming off the first effect is pumped to the second effect. It leaves the second effect at 40% solids as another 1000 PPH of water is removed. Therefore, for every pound of steam from the boiler provides two pounds of evaporation in the two effect mass balance. The thermal dynamic principal here is that heat travels down hill from hot to cold so we will need to add some components to make this work however it is possible to have more than two effects.
In this illustration we have the two effect process and have added a condenser and vacuum pump to complete the components required to insure the heat energy will flow downhill. Starting from the high temperature boiler steam, to the 1st effect product, out of the 1st effect separator and into the 2nd effect steam side. From there the heat energy is transferred to the 2nd effect product and out of the 2nd effect separator, into the condenser, and out to the cooling tower water.
